Former professional soccer player turned actor, currently in my final semester at Rider University for a BFA in Musical Theatre. From homelessness to college graduate, learn more about my story.
Nico Nazal is an actor, choreographer and athlete currently based in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. A Filipino-American born outside of Philadelphia, raised in Atlanta with DC roots, he has a unique cultural identity that has cultivated itself into his artistry.
From a young age he was involved in many athletic endeavors, including soccer, flag football, hockey, golf and eventually dance. At 10 years old he committed to playing soccer, training extensively and traveling the world until he was picked up professionally at 15 years old in the Philippines. After playing for nearly two years professionally, he found another calling and decided to pursue theatre at the age of 18.
His work ethic and training from soccer carried into his theatre beginnings. Nico was fortunate to find a new home at Orbit Arts Academy where he was taken under the wing of true industry professionals, and after 8 months of training he decided to further his education and audition for college theatre programs. He was grateful to find a place in Rider University's BFA Musical Theatre Program.
Before coming to university, and during the pandemic in 2020, he found himself homeless after a series of hardships he and his family faced. There were many people around Atlanta who were gracious and kind in his time of need, and who pushed him through until he could start school in August 2020. Since then he has been able to overcome the challenges from those times to obtain a four year degree, and is more dedicated than ever to creating art and being part of projects that are bigger than himself.
Nico is also an avid traveler, having been to over 20 countries for soccer, education and leisure. In his free time you can find him with friends and family, golfing or playing guitar. He also may be a bit of a Disney adult...
